Dr. Anthony Liu M.D., M.P.T. is an eye physician and surgeon who combines an approach of personal attention and compassionate care with technology and innovation. For nearly three decades, Dr Liu has resided in the Bay Area. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Liu’s commitment to personalized care developed early on in his career as a physical therapist at Mills-Peninsula hospital.  During this time, he founded a physical therapy service at Samaritan House, providing free physical therapy to the underprivileged in San Mateo.

Dr. Liu then completed his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco. During medical school, he developed an interest in innovation. Utilizing technology used for computer microprocessor fabrication, Dr. Liu designed, co-invented, and patented an implantable muscle stimulator for nerve damage conditions which affect the eye. As part of this work, he co-authored a research grant which was awarded $1.2 million. He then underwent Ophthalmology residency training at Stanford University.  Dr. Liu has been selected to present his research on the latest techniques in laser refractive surgery at multiple national meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). He has published multiple articles on subjects including cataract, intraocular lens implants, and refractive surgery. Dr. Liu brings the latest in technology and innovation in caring for his patients including ultra high resolution retinal imaging, and multifocal and astigmatism correcting intraocular lens implants.

Dr. Liu lives in San Mateo with his wife and three sons. He enjoys playing the violin, the ukulele, the guitar, and spending time with his family.
