Penninsula Eye Physicians - Dr. Michael DrinnanDr. Michael Drinnan M.D., has been practicing comprehensive ophthalmology in San Mateo for over 20 years.  After getting his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, he received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.  In the 1980s he moved to California with his wife Caroline Drinnan- a local Pediatrician.  Dr. Drinnan joined the Stanford University residency program in ophthalmology and was chosen to be its chief resident in his final year. Presently Dr. Drinnan is an adjunct clinical assistant professor in surgery (ophthalmology) at the Stanford University Medical School.  He teaches eye surgery to young residents.  He has also recently served as the chairman of the Mills Peninsula Hospital’s Department of Ophthalmology.  He has been a long member and fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology ( AAO) , the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ( ASCRS) and a life member of the American Medical Association ( AMA.) 

He organized and heads the Eye clinic at the Samaritan House free medical clinic in San Mateo and performs pro bono eye surgery for needy patients there.

Dr. Drinnan has a special interest in cataract and refractive surgery and is one of the busiest cataract surgeons on the Peninsula.  He is also one of the first surgeons to implant the new multifocal intraocular lens at Mills Peninsula Hospital    He specializes in small incision suture less phacoemulsification cataract surgery and also performs laser vision correction including LASEK, PRK, and other refractive surgeries to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.  He takes care of patients with a wide variety of ophthalmological conditions including glaucomaand diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Drinnan enjoys hiking, bicycling, swimming and running and with his family including four sons and has been fortunate to have traveled extensively.
