What PenEye is doing to protect patient health

Here at Peninsula Eye Physicians we are taking a proactive approach to limit the spread of infection diseases, including COVID-19.  In order to protect our patients and staff, we are asking patients to reschedule to a Virtual Visit or discuss with our staff if the following conditions apply:

  • You have symptoms of sore throat, cough, chills, fatigue, gastrointestinal distress, body aches for unknown reasons, shortness of breath for unknown reasons, loss of smell, loss of taste, fever at or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit

  • You have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and/or exposed or been in close contact with someone diagnosed or with signs/symptoms of COVID-19

  • You or someone in your household has been recently tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting results.

  • You or someone in your household has traveled in the U.S. in the past 2 weeks

  • You or anyone in your household visited or received treatment in a hospital, nursing home, long-term care, or other health care facility in the past 30 days

  • You are diagnosed or experiencing symptoms of watery, red eye, or discharge associated with Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is considered a symptom of COVID-19 by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and we will be triaging those patients over the phone at this time.

Short notice cancellation fees will be waived for patients that reschedule their appointments due to illness.

Peninsula Eye Physicians has also implemented enhanced internal prevention measures:

  • Screening and educating employees to stay home for any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19

  • Screening patients prior to the appointment including temperature checks

  • Regularly disinfecting all door handles, waiting room arm rests, and exam rooms

  • Increasing the number of hand sanitizer stations throughout the office

  • Requiring employees and patient to wear masks in office

  • Reducing in-office appointments to maintain physical distancing

  • Implementing comprehensive social distancing protocols

  • Staying up to date with CDC, state, and local public health precautions

We understand that these measures may cause some inconvenience but we feel it necessary in order to protect the health and safety of all of our patients and employees.

We look forward to continuing to provide everyone with the highest level of eye care service.  Thank you.
